Women’s groups to run bulk milk coolers
Centres to be set up at mandals to step up milk supply

HYDERABAD: Animal Husbandry Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday said that women’s groups were being asked to run mandal-level bulk milk coolers, to be set up all over the State, for stepping up milk procurement from farmers.
Of the 236 coolers proposed in nearly as many mandals, he said, 33 were already functional. Mr. Prasad was speaking at the inaugural of ‘Dairy India Expo 2008’, a two-day national exhibition on dairy and cattle industry, organised by NRS forums and exhibitions.
The milk coolers are procurement centres run by women’s groups where milk is cooled to 4 degrees Celsius, considered a safe level for handling milk in any manner. Women’s groups will be provided with cans of 40 litres capacity. The unit cost, including expenditure on training of women, was estimated at Rs. 50 lakh. The Minister said the capacity of each cooler would be about 5,000 litres a day.
Adhar Sinha, Managing Director, AP Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd, said the targeted collection was 10 lakh litres of milk a day. L. Mohan, Director, Animal Husbandry, said the Government had recently received 20,000 cattle, mostly buffalos, from Haryana for distribution to farmers under a subsidised scheme.

Hyderabad: The 22nd Hyderabad Book Fair was inaugurated on Friday evening by Minister for Animal Husbandry, Mandali Buddha Prasad.
The fair was organised at Peoples Plaza, Necklace road.
The Minister emphasized the need to develop reading habits among youth and school children.
Various subjects
The book fair has 190 book stalls on various subjects varying from literature, culture, lifestyle, public examinations, management and many more.
Books sold at the fair will carry a ten per cent discount.
The entry is free only for students, teachers and people from educational institutions provided they carry identity cards.
The Hyderabad Book Fair will be open from 2 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. till December 17th with an entry ticket of Rs.5.
136 bulk milk-chilling units to be set up this year

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited (APDDCF) has agreed to set up 136 bulk milk-chilling units in the State this year at a cost of Rs. 75 crore to give a boost to milk production.
Announcing this at a State-level workshop on empowering dairy farmers through milk procurement by women’s thrift groups under Indira Kranthi Patham (IKP) here on Thursday, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad said one bulk milk-chilling centre with a capacity of 5,000 litres or two 2,000 litres units would be established in each mandal.
Milch cattle
These chilling units would get supplies from the automatic milk collection centres set up in each village. Mr. Buddha Prasad said 1 lakh milch cattle will be purchased at 25 per cent subsidy from other States to improve the quality of milk production. He said 50 per cent rebate was given on the cattle insurance scheme. Other initiatives include strengthening of the existing dairies and chilling centres and modernisation of the milk product factory in Hyderabad.
Minister confident
Rural Development Minister G. Chinna Reddy expressed confidence that the Gross State Domestic Product would increase as the Government was paying attention to agriculture and its allied activities.
Special Chief Secretary (Animal husbandry) Priyadarshi Dash said an amount of Rs. 500 crore had been earmarked in this budget to develop the department.
Establishing a Safe Drinking Water Plant
Shri M Buddha Prasad, MLA, Avanigadda donated Rs 4.4 lakh as part of the community contribution for setting up of the plant and promised to support the plant in Bhavadevarapalli as well. The nets were distributed to the needy in the Mopidevi Mandal’s worst effected areas of Peddakallepalli, Venkatapuram, Naagayatippa, Mopidevi, Peddaprolu, North Chiruvolu Lanka and Bobbarlanka. More than 300 fishermen were donated the nets worth Rs.2,10,000/-.
In a programme organized at the Mopidevi Mandal Office on the 15th of January 2005, Tenali MP Shree. Vallabhaneni Balasouri, Avanigadda MLA Shree Mandali Buddha Prasad and Ravi Shankar, Managing Director TeluguOne.com distributed the nets to the fishermen.
